From an initially unimpressive impression of the beauty industry…

After graduating with honors, Phung Chieu Hung started their first job at a mid-range aesthetic clinic in Ho Chi Minh City. Thinking it was just a casual endeavor for fun, little did they know that this would be the starting point for many career “twists and turns” in the future.

“Give customers sincerity, and you will receive trust in return” – Phung Chieu Hung shared.

As a consultant, instead of receiving proper training in professional knowledge and skills, Hung had to focus on using manipulative tactics to attract customers. “At that time, I had just graduated, and I took the high-paying job without much thought. Every day, I had to successfully persuade about 15 customers to meet my targets. I didn’t really understand the products or the materials used by the customers. When I asked for guidance, no one would show me. So, I just worked like a machine. Over time, many customers complained about ineffective services, and some even suffered severe consequences. At my workplace, ambulances had to be on standby constantly to handle emergency cases and quickly clean up the aftermath to avoid scrutiny… I started to realize the truth behind my job.”

I only truly found the motivation to leave that unethical job when I met some aunts in my family. For them, the idea of going to the city for beauty treatments was a luxury. After saving up for years, they planned to go to a reputable aesthetic clinic, the same one I was working at. I advised against it, but they wouldn’t listen. Only my mother knew the reason and privately told me, “Tomorrow’s outcome depends on today’s actions.” I woke up and made the decision to resign.

When my female boss asked me why I was resigning despite having a sky-high income and being an outstanding salesman on the team, I shared my thoughts honestly and asked her, “Can we change anything?” She remained silent, and from that day on, she became my former boss.

Giving up a high-paying job, Hung’s life went through some changes. They sought employment at other aesthetic clinics but found no cooperation because Hung felt that these places were just replicas of their previous workplace.

For Hung, being a consultant was a fascinating position, but there was no place that offered proper training and guidance. Most of them only turned consultants into robotic order takers.

Feeling disappointed with the beauty industry, Hung decided to give it up and pursue a different career. Just when things seemed settled, Hung accidentally participated in a seminar organized by the Mega Group from South Korea. Sitting among experts and senior advisors, listening to their sharing of professional knowledge and strategic vision, and hearing terms like “high-level beauty expert” for the first time, Hung felt like they had landed on a different planet.

“When women are betrayed by men, they hastily conclude that all men in the world are wicked. They forget that there are still many good men out there, but they need to know how to encounter them. My feelings after the seminar were similar. Just because I had an unsatisfactory workplace experience, I quickly judged that the beauty industry in Vietnam was not worth it, forgetting that in order to meet a good boss, and a dedicated leader, and work in a world-class environment, I needed to upgrade myself first. Whichever cloud layer one reaches depends on the wind one encounters along the way.” – Chieu Hung confided.

After the seminar, Chieu Hung was haunted by the phrase “high-level beauty expert.” Luckily, they became acquainted with a woman working at the Head Office of the Mega Group in South Korea. Hung inquired and sought additional training on the criteria to become a high-level beauty expert. Learning that there would be a recruitment drive soon, they tirelessly honed their skills day and night, hoping to turn their dream into reality.

That day finally arrived, and the story of Hung’s experiences touched the interview panel, except for Chairman Lee, who disagreed. His training philosophy was that “pouring water into a clean cup will result in purer water than pouring it into a dirty cup.” He believed that since Chiêu Hưng had previously worked with an untrustworthy beauty organization, he couldn’t trust that they would successfully “cleanse their mind” and meet the international operating model. However, Hung’s response later made the chairman smile and change his decision: “The experience I gained from my previous workplace is the most valuable thing that no other candidate here possesses. I always remember those days as a reminder to myself never to repeat them. It reminds me that I can do any job, but I must always prioritize my integrity.”

To become a world-class beauty expert, Hung has to meet strict standards in terms of professional knowledge, soft skills, communication skills, social awareness, and more. However, regardless of where they seek beauty treatments, my greatest desire is for customers to acquire more knowledge and understanding so that they are never deceived. Beauty is a privilege of women, and guiding women towards intelligent beauty is the mission and responsibility of beauty experts like myself,” Chieu Hung shared, expressing a quality that any beauty expert craves.

To become a high-level beauty expert working at Mega Gangnam, a subsidiary of the Mega Corporation in South Korea, you are required to meet the following criteria:

Educational qualifications: A university degree or higher, with proficiency in either English or Korean.
Pleasant appearance and good communication skills.
Completion of courses and passing three advanced beauty expert certifications jointly organized by the Korean Medical Aesthetics Association and the Mega Corporation.
Level 1: Ordinary Certification (basic level, not qualified to work as a beauty expert).
Level 2: Honor Certification (advanced level, recognized as an esteemed beauty expert, eligible to work in Vietnam and South Korea).
Level 3: Expert Certification (superior level, recognized as an international beauty expert, eligible to work in countries within the KMEA system such as China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, etc.).

The competition to obtain these three certifications is considered highly intense, with a high elimination rate. The expert course has a limited number of registrations, accepting only 200 candidates per year after rigorous preliminary interviews. After completing the course, candidates must pass a minimum of two certifications to practice as beauty experts. Currently, there are only about 50 high-level beauty experts worldwide.
