THE THORNY JOURNEY TO REACH THE DREAM OF BECOMING A HIGH-LEVEL BEAUTY EXPERT

The story of high-level beauty expert Jessica-Chu Dieu Huyen is evidence that with a clear dream and goal, nothing is impossible.

The unexpected turn from a law graduate

After graduating with an excellent degree in Law from Hanoi University, few would have thought that Ms. Jessica would abandon the path of becoming a lawyer to venture into the field of aesthetics.

Jessica is always determined with her own dreams and goals

The reason I think and set a goal to become a high-level beauty expert is because, in 2003, I had the opportunity to accompany someone to South Korea for cosmetic surgery. Being exposed to the consulting experts there, I was amazed. It seemed that the position we commonly refer to as “consultant” or “sales” in Vietnam had reached a different level in Korea. They didn’t just sell services like a machine; they provided customers with empathy,” Jessica shared.

The astonishing experience led the law graduate at that time to make a decisive turn and delve into the realm of “high-level beauty experts.” Jessica searched the internet for information, set specific goals, and was determined to become a high-level beauty expert at all costs. Over the course of five years, Jessica learned Korean, obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and held positions as an employee, specialist, and department head in sales and customer care at major corporations.

The trips helped Jessica gain more high-level experiences, which are essential for a top beauty expert to possess.

“At the end of the ‘first 5 years,’ Jessica quit all current jobs and embarked on a journey to ‘hunt’ for opportunities to work in South Korea, continuing the challenge of the ‘second 5 years.’ Despite many people at that time saying that being a beauty expert was a ‘fictional’ position that could never be realized in Vietnam, I saw the rapid development of service industries, especially the beauty service sector, in powerful nations. And I firmly believed that Vietnam would not be left behind in that general trend,” Jessica shared.

Mega Gangnam – The perfect stopping point

Through research, Jessica discovered that Mega Corporation, one of the largest Chaebols in South Korea, usually recruits interns in the beauty industry at a ratio of 1/980. Surpassing thousands of candidates, Jessica made a strong impression on the Board of Directors and advanced to the position of specialist.

Mr. Lee Bok Jun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mega Corp, commented on Jessica in the final evaluation report of her probation period as follows: ‘Jess is the first Vietnamese to surpass other qualified candidates and become the winner. Although she doesn’t have much experience, Jess possesses a decisive factor in the beauty industry, which is empathy.’

Jessica proved that Mr. Lee didn’t misjudge her when, after a two-month probation, she quickly rose to positions such as Assistant Manager and, as a turning point, became the Part Leader of the R&D department, specializing in product research and development, and market analysis. In 2008, Mega Corp decided to enter Vietnam with the Mega Gangnam Aesthetic Institute brand.

As predicted, Mega Gangnam became the hottest name in the Vietnamese market at that time. Jessica returned to her home country as a beauty expert, joining forces with colleagues with the ambition to create an empire and dominate the non-surgical skin rejuvenation field.

‘For me, Mega Gangnam is the perfect stopping point, fulfilling all my passions and helping me become a true beauty expert – something that cannot be found in any other beauty address outside of Mega Gangnam,’ Jessica confided.

The happiness of a beauty expert

The most interesting aspect of my job is that I get to interact with a wide range of people. From businessmen, politicians, beauty queens, and singers to housewives, retirees, and small business owners. Each person has a different story and a different experience, but they all share a common desire when seeking beauty services: the aspiration to become the best version of themselves. Experiencing all the emotional nuances with my clients is the greatest joy in my profession.

Until now, I have maintained the same philosophy in life and work since the early days: to prioritize sincerity and empathy. I hope to bring about an opportunity to change perspectives on beauty and self-love for even more clients, making Mega Gangnam the number one beauty brand in Vietnam.

To become a high-level beauty expert working at Mega Gangnam – the Mega Corporation in South Korea, you are required to meet the following criteria:

Education: A university degree or higher, with proficiency in either English or Korean language.
Pleasant appearance and good communication skills.
Completion of courses and passing three advanced beauty expert certifications jointly organized by the Korean Medical Aesthetic Association and Mega Corporation.
Level 1: Ordinary Certification (basic level, not qualified to work as a beauty expert)
Level 2: Honor Certification (advanced level, becoming an honorary beauty expert, able to work in Vietnam and Korea)
Level 3: Expert Certification (superior level, becoming an international beauty expert, able to work in countries within the KMEA system such as China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore…)

The competition for these three certifications is highly intense, with a high selection rate. The expert course has a limited registration of only 200 people per year after undergoing rigorous preliminary interviews. At the end of the course, candidates must pass at least 2 certifications to practice professionally. Currently, there are only about 50 high-level beauty experts worldwide.
